Medicinal potential of African plants (Togo)

Description

This dataset was extracted on the multilingual dictionary of medicinal plants that lists nearly 1,000 plants identified by their scientific name, scientific synonyms with medicinal indications in about 150 local languages (often linguistic groups) from eight West African countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

The data collection covers all of the following countries: Bénin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo.

Sampling

This dataset comes from the collection of data in the literature (flora of the countries concerned) and in the botanical databases available for free access on the Internet

Quality Control

Spelling of scientific names is consistent with the names accepted and available on ipni.org; theplantlist.org et http://www.ville-ge.ch/musinfo/bd/cjb/africa/ recherche.php?langue=en

Method steps

  1. This dataset is an extract from a book that is an open door to the comparison between flora and traditional herbal medicine from other regions in order to discover the convergences and divergences in the use of the same plant by different populations. In addition to intellectual enrichment, this can be a way of choosing the species to be cultivated for utilitarian purposes.

Taxonomic Coverages

This incomplete dataset is conceived as a reading guide complementary to the ethnobotanical studies of which it present a non-exhaustive overview in the bibliographical references, in order to make the consultation more accessible, even to the general public. It is intended above all to be a synthesis tool to become a tool of dialogue between the various actors of health.
  1. Plantae
common name: Plantes médicinales rank: kingdom

Geographic Coverages

Its from eight West Africa countries : Bénin,Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinée, Mali, Niger, Sénégal and Togo.
