Finnish butterflies - complete lists
Complete checklist of Finnish diurnal butterflies (Lepidoptera). The list includes butterflies (Papilonoidea) recorded in Finland by 31.12.2022. The records include complete checklists of observer trips. Observers mark down each species or taxon they have observed. The data is presence-absence or, optionally, presence-absence with abundance data. Abundance is recorded either in logarhitmic scale (0 = 0 individuals, 1 = 1-10 individuals, 2=10-100 individuals, 3=100-1000 individuals, 4=1000+ individuals) or as precise user input. Observations must include location, date and time data. Checklists should be considered to show real absences if properly submitted. The data includes also the following aggregate taxa. The aggregate taxa represent species groups that are routinely observed in the field but cannot be reasonably identified. The reasons for non-identifiation may include difficulties in telling the species apart in normal field conditions (e.g. many fritillaries which are often only seen in flight) or large numbers of co-occurring similar species (e.g. several co-occurring Polyommatini blues that require netting for certain identification). The aggregates are: MX.5096689 MX.5096686 MX.5073946 MX.5096687 MX.230691 MX.60822 MX.5096689 Data quality: The quality of data is, as of 22th May 2023, unknown. Data may include incomplete lists, overtly long or short observation efforts or mislabelled observations. Data curation is necessary before using data for research.
