Dataset homepage

Citation

NatureScot (2022). Wild boar culled on the National Forest Estate Scotland 2015-21. Occurrence dataset https://doi.org/10.15468/unvngm accessed via GBIF.org on 2023-06-05.

Description

Records of wild boar/feral pig culled on Forest Enterprise Scotland (FES) land in Scotland during 2015-21 have been uploaded on behalf of Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS), a non-ministerial government department responsible for managing the National Forest Estate through FES.

Purpose

Records of sightings are kept to establish the distribution, population and impacts of wild boar/feral pig in Scotland.

Sampling Description

Quality Control

Records are of animals shot by experienced FES staff or their agents, so there is a very high degree of confidence in the data.

Method steps

  1. Annual cull returns for deer and wild boar/feral pig on FES land are maintained by each Forest District, and are compiled into a national spreadsheet
