Description

These data are the observational data from the 2018 Oregon Bee Atlas native bee surveys. All of the records represent specimens caught in the field, pinned, labelled, and identified by experts. Voucher specimens were deposited in the Oregon State Arthropod Collection for all nominative taxa sampled from as many locations as feasible.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

Bees were sampled throughout Oregon. The aim of this survey is to obtain faunistic absence/presence data, not abundance. The vast majority of specimens were collected by citizen scientist with training in how to survey bees and obtain research grade observational data for the records.

Sampling

Most bees were sampled using aerial nets, although pan traps were occasionally used; this is recorded in the data set.

Quality Control

All observations were confirmed with physical specimens, identified in laboratory settings by expert taxonomists. Georeferencing data was examined at multiple stages to ensure records are accurate.
