Description

Es ist Ihnen wohl bekaililt, daß bei der Feingliederung des Tertiärs im Tethysraum immer mehr die planktonischen Foraminiferen berücksichtigt werden. Diese Fossilien hatten durch ihre Lebensweise die Möglichkeit einer großen horizontalen Verbreitung und sind deswegen für die Stratigraphie besonders wichtig. Sehr weit ist die Feingliederung des Oligo-Miocän zum Beispiel fortgeschritten in Trinidad, wo neuerdings BOLLI (1957) ein sehr detailliertes Schema aufgestellt hat. Man muß aber für eine allgemeine Verwendung einer solchen Einteilung noch sehr vorsichtig sein.
