Sampling Description

Study Extent

The study on the Negros Cave Frogs and their habitats was part of a bigger study that assessed the resources of the Southern Cauayan Municipal Forest and Watershed Reserve. It focused only on six large caves found in the area.

Sampling

Sampling method relied primarily on empirical observations following the cruising method.

Method steps

  1. Frogs observed inside the caves were recorded based on sightings and calls. The caves were marked and located using a GPS. A cave habitat threat assessment using direct and indirect threats was also used to describe the habitats.

Taxonomic Coverages

Geographic Coverages

The observation site is located at the Southern Cauayan Municipal Forest and Watershed Reserve found at the southwestern part of Negros Island. It is a lowland karst limestone forest dotted with sinkholes and caves.
