Movhera Foz-Tua: Vascular Fora – Compensatory Measures Monitoring Program (MC12a-e) – Exploration Phase [2021]

Description

The dataset contains records of Vascular Flora and Habitats collected the scope of the Compensatory Measures Monitoring Program (2021), measure MC12a-e, “Creation of a Microrreserve Network”, of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A., subsequently (2021) transferred to Movhera Hidroelétricas do Norte, S.A. Data were collected in the spring 2021, during field visits to 96 sampling points located in the newly created Macroreserves along the river Tua lower valley, from the mouth to 52 km upstream. This dataset represents the second sampling of the MC12a-e compensatory measure in the exploration phase, which is carried out every three years. A total of 3971 records of plant species or infra-specific categories was produced.

Purpose

This dataset is part of a broader initiative whereby the company Movhera – Hidroelétricas do Norte S.A. will make available biodiversity data collected during impact assessment and biological monitoring studies.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

The data were collected along the Tua lower valley (Northeast Portugal), up to 52 km from the mouth, in the municipalities of Alijó, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Murça, Vila Flor and Mirandela

Sampling

Sampling was based on plant inventories in permanent 50 m2 sampling plots (mostly coinciding with sites of the Program of Ecological Monitoring [PME]), in the the period favorable to the emergence of flowering and fruiting of the different communities (May-July), with production of a floristic list and quantitative assessment of the degree of coverage (in percentage) and density (number of individuals per meter square, in a semi-quantitative scale) of vascular plants. This dataset only includes the percentage cover data.
