The summer counting of geese has 2 main aims: establishing as accurate an overview as possible of the number of geese per species in each province and estimating how many geese migrate to the Netherlands for the summer. Provincial authorities are responsible for developing a policy, and fauna management units are responsible for developing a fauna management plan. Data about population development, damage and implemented measures are necessary to evaluate - and possibly review - policy and management. All types of land use are represented in the boards of fauna management units: hunting, agriculture, private land and nature conservation (environmental management organisations). The protocol is widely supported and the counting is carried out in collaboration with several organisations, which makes the population data reliable and undisputed. Positive observations without zeros. https://www.ndff.nl/overdendff/validatie/protocollen/14-010-zomertelling-ganzen-2012/Sampling Description
