Sampling event dataset https://doi.org/10.15468/vxo12k accessed via GBIF.org on 2024-11-01.Description
The dataset contains records of the Dipper (Cinclus cinclus) (Aves) and other riparian birds collected in the Tinhela river (Tua sub-basin) and included in the Ecological Monitoring Program (2012-17) of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. Data were collected in the winter of 2013 and 2017, and in the spring of 2012-2015 and 2017, during field visits to six transects located in the riverbed of the Tinhela river, both in the area affected by the dam, near the mouth, and upstream. All observations were made with binoculars and/or telescopes.Purpose
This dataset is part of a broader initiative whereby the company EDP - Energias de Portugal S.A. will made available biodiversity data collected during impact assessment and biological monitoring studies.
Sampling Description
Study Extent
The data were collected in the riverbeds of the Tinhela river (river Tua sub-basin) (Northeast Portugal), up to 10 km from the mouth, in the municipality of Murça.Sampling
Sampling was designed to cover the main habitats for the Dipper and other riparian birds along the Tinhela valley affected by the Foz-Tua dam (the mouth) and upstream. A total of six line transects was established along the river Tinhela. All transects were sampled once in winter and 1-2 times in the reproductive period (spring), in the early morning or late afternoon. Each transect was walked on foot at a constant speed of 1-2 km/h and lasted no less than 30 minutes. Species identification and assessment of age and sex (when possible) were made “in loco”, with the help of appropriate field guides.Quality Control
