Pythium huanghuaiense sp. nov. isolated from soybean: morphology, molecular phylogeny and pathogenicity

Citation

Chen J (2021). Pythium huanghuaiense sp. nov. isolated from soybean: morphology, molecular phylogeny and pathogenicity. Biodiversity Data Journal. Checklist dataset https://doi.org/10.3897/bdj.9.e65227 accessed via GBIF.org on 2022-08-17.

Description

Soybean is a major source of plant for edible oil and protein. A new species of Pythium, P. huanghuaiense, isolated from the seedlings of soybean in China is described and illustrated based on morphological characters and molecular evidence.Pythium huanghuaiense is closely related to some species of Pythium owing to its presence of hyphal swellings, and its relatively rapid growth rate in morphology. However, it differs in having relatively small sporangia and plerotic or nearly plerotic and thin-walled oospores. A pathogenicity test confirmed the newly introduced species as a pathogen of soybean.
