A 1976 checklist of Coccinellidae from Vermont, USA listed 38 species in 16 genera (Parker et al. 1976) based on occurrence records known at the time. The authors listed the first and last date each species was collected in Vermont and the total number of specimens known, a snapshot of Lady Beetle life in Vermont prior to 1976.Since at least the 1980s, native Lady Beetles that were once very common across the region have become rare or have even gone missing. But there was little information readily available from Vermont. Spurred on by the 1976 report, we began to assemble as much primary occurrence data as possible. We digitizing records from the historic document, museum collections from across Vermont, and Vermont records from projects like the Lost Ladybug Project at Cornell University. From 2019 to 2023, we recruited community scientists from across the state to help us record Lady Beetles via the Vermont Atlas of Life Lady Beetle Atlas (https://val.vtecostudies.org/projects/lady-beetle-atlas). We assembled this checklist from over 9,000 occurrence records, both historic and recent. The checklist now contains 48 species in 21 genera, with seven species known to be introduced.Sampling Description
