2019 ForBio and UiO International Dead Wood Course. Biodiversity assessement

Study Extent

The area where the collections/observations were made is not represertative of the total Reserve' area, rather it includes walking trails open to public. Since the major scope of the course was not the assessment of biodiversity, the provided dataset does not represent the total biodiversity of the Reserve. Species were recorded during the constrained time of the course to demonstrate methods in biological inventory and provide examples of open biodiversity data publishing. Species observations were made by the course participants, such as faculty and graduate students.

Sampling

Most of the species were just observed during the field trips, some recorded using iNaturalist phone application. Several specimens were collected with the permission of the Nature Reserve and stored in personal collections of the specialists.

Method steps

1. Each field trip was conducted for two hours. Species were observed and recorded using iNaturalist phone application, or recorded manually.

Three field trips were conducted throughout the duration of the course. The trips occurred in the South-Eastern part of the Reserve, along the established walking trails as well as areas nearby the central part of the reserve.
