The project intends to expand a program of marine turtles conservation in the north of La Guajira peninsula of Colombia carried out by a group of local fishermen from the Wayuu indigenous community of the bahia Hondita bay and Punta Gallinas sectors. The group has been protecting nesting beaches, females, nests and eggs. However, La Guajira harbors nearshore waters with numerous juveniles and subadults of the species Chelonia mydas. The main purpose of this tracking program is to monitor individual juvenile C. mydas to observe which areas of La Guajira they area using and to test if they are taking residency at these habitats and for how long.
