This dataset contains zooplankton data collected in the Northeast Pacific Ocean with a Juday net. These data were collected as part of the International Year of the Salmon (IYS) High Seas Expedition conducted in February and March 2019, to further improve the understanding of factors impacting salmon early marine winter survival. Two Juday nets (0.1 m2 mouth area, 160 um mesh size) were deployed at 58 stations to a depth of 200 meters, and samples were processed onboard the vessel. Taxa were identified to the lowest taxonomic rank possible. Where possible, sex and lifestage are determined. For count, abundance and biomass measurements, please reach out to the point of contact(s) listed. The samples from 2019 were processed by Aleksander Slabinskiy. The data collected is used to understand the underlying food web structure.Sampling Description
Study Extent
Two Juday nets (0.1 m2 mouth area, 160 um mesh size) were deployed at 58 stations in the Gulf of Alaska between February and March 2019, to a depth of 200 meters. These data were collected as part of the International Year of the Salmon (IYS) High Seas Expedition.Sampling
Samples were processed onboard the vessel. The Juday net (0.1 m2 mouth area, and 160 um mesh size) was deployed to a depth of 200 m and retrieved vertically. The net was towed at a speed of ~ 1 m/s. Zooplankton were identified to the lowest taxonomic rank possible.Method steps
- Samples from 2019 were processed onboard the research vessel, and taxa were discerned to lowest taxonomic rank possible. Samples were preserved in 4% formalin for further laboratory analysis.
