In the spring of 1993, a national moth survey was launched, coordinated by Finnish Environment Institute (Syke). The monitoring is part of the Biodiversity Research Programme. Monitoring butterflies provides rapid information on changes in nature. Local butterfly enthusiasts from the Finnish Society of Butterfly Researchers are responsible for identifying butterflies. The Regional Environment Centres were responsible for maintaining the light grids of the monitoring network, conducting weekly surveys and recording data until the end of 2017. This dataset contains a copy of observations of this survey until 2019. Additionally, this dataset contains observations starting from 2023, which are recorded directly on FinBIF observation service. Full data from 2020- is not included yet, but will be made accessible later.
