Bat diversity data by Formosan Golden Bat's Home

Description

Bat species occurrence data collected by Formosan Golden Bat's Home. Currently, most of the records is tightened with reference call recordings, which is archived in the Asian Bat Call Library by Hungarian Natural History Museum. The publication is considered as the extension of SEABCRU's BIFA04-24 project supported by GBIF-BIFA.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

Most data were primarily collected from the lowland of southwestern Taiwan, with additional records from mountain areas at middle-high elevation of the island.

Sampling

Bat records were obtained by the staff of Formosan Golden Bat's Home and volunteers trapping (harp trap and mist nets), direct observation in roosts, and acoustic surveys using full-spectrum ultrasound recorders.

Quality Control

The dataset was prepared by the author (HCC). It was first assembled in a standard form designed for the Asian Bat Call Database (ABCD).The contributor(s) has been worked on the data preparation with assistance from Dr. Joe Chun-Chia Huang of SEABCRU, who is also the primary investigator of the BIFA04-24 project. The contents and format have been reviewed by Joe and Dr. Tamas Golfol from ABCD. The taxonomy of the species records has been carefully reviewed by Dr. Golfol which is very experienced of bat taxonomy in Asia.

Method steps

  1. Species data were either extracted from sound files recorded from captured animals or/and capture records in the field note as well as acoustic surveys. Capture individuals were identified primarily by morphological features following the descriptions by Huang et al. (2020). JOTT.
