The Bay of Fundy is a large embayment on the east coast of Canada that is an integral part of a complex hydrographic system that includes the Gulf of Maine. The Bay is best known for its highest tides in the world, but also represents one of the most productive ecosystems known. It contains and sustains a great variety of fishery and wildlife resources and provides habitat for a number of rare or endemic species, such as the right whale.
The Bay of Fundy Species Information System is dedicated to providing taxonomic, biological and ecological information on marine algae, invertebrates, fish, mammals and shore birds. Various resources were used in the creation of the database, including published literature and experts for specific taxa.
This resource contains the checklist of names compiled by the Bay of Fundy Species Information System. The checklist has not been updated since 2004.

Nominal coordinates for the Bay of Fundy were assigned based on information in the Marine Regions gazetteer. Scientific names were mapped to the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) and the scientificNameID field has been populated with LSIDs. One name could not be resolved and the following note has been included in the dataset: "The name Megadrite cannot be matched to a valid name - it is likely a spelling error but cannot be resolved at this time with information available". The scientificNameID field is null for this name.Method steps
- This resource was provided to OBIS as a Census of Marine Life contribution (http://iobis.org/mapper/?resource_id=36) but has since been removed from the OBIS database and should no longer be accessible through the OBIS portal. This resource was provided by OBIS to GBIF during the Census and is now treated as a checklist by the local OBIS node.
- The URL http://webapps.marinebiodiversity.ca/BayOfFundy/ no longer appears to work and has therefore been removed from the external links section.
- The latest version of this resource (October 2018) contains refreshed metadata information and many additional DwC terms have been added to the occurrence file.
