Desde 1996, se firmó un convenio entre la Facultad de Ciencias de la UNAM, la CONABIO y el Museum of Natural History (Inglaterra), con el objetivo de construir una base de datos de ejemplares mexicanos de mamíferos, aves, herpetofauna y mariposas contenidas en las colecciones de esta última institución.
