The dataset consists of records of ornithofauna representatives spotted on the territory of the Chornobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve in the period from 2020 to 2022. The dataset was created by the staff of the reserve in order to save information about local biodiversity in terms outer aggression agains Ukraine and mass losses of valuable data due to occupation. A total of 68 species of birds are mentioned within the dataset.Sampling Description
Study Extent
The dataset represents records of birds (both visual and audial) from the territory of the Chornobyl exclusion zone, within which the Chornobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve is located. The reserve includes areas around the reclamation systems of the Chornobyl zone, the Chornobyl cooling reservoir, the Pripyat, Uzh and Sakhan river valleys, the old forests of the Chornobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve in Kyiv region. This dataset was prepared and published with the help of the Olin gGmbH foundation to preserve data on the biodiversity of Ukraine obtained by the Ukrainian scientists, who were forced to leave their homeland due to the war (Russia's invasion of Ukraine). Olin gGmbH is a funding organization for environmental protection and conservation that supports environmental and sociopolitical organizations. We are sincerely grateful to the NGO "Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group" for financial support. Special thanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to finalize the materials and hope for new research under the peaceful sky of independent Ukraine!Sampling
Materials highlighted in the dataset were collected through observations on routes, photo registration. Visual and audial registrations were recorded and then identified, confirmed or corrected by Serhii Domashevsky. The findings are presented in chronological order.Quality Control
The authors of the dataset are fully responsible for the quality of data provided in it.Method steps
