Amphibians from the Tshopo province and the province of Bas-Uélé were the subject of our study. The main objective of this research was to evaluate the species richness of amphibians in these unexplored entities. As a reminder, amphibians in the DRC are not sufficiently studied due to a lack of expertise. However, some studies are being conducted mainly in protected areas. These data have been made possible thanks to BID-GBIF funding, financed by the European Union.Sampling Description
Study Extent
Between 2014 and 2019, we inventorized for 10 days in each of the following sites: Aketi, Kayete, Uma, Masako Forest Reserve, Yangambi Biosphere Reserve, Rubi-Télé hunting estate and in the Yoko Reserve.Sampling
The tongue of amphibians contained the biopsy and was contained in the Eppendorf tube containing alcohol (96%) for subsequent molecular studies. We had assembled all the amphibians in a rectangular plastic box containing formalin (10%). They remained in place for 24 hours then they were transferred into alcohol (75%) for permanent preservation.Quality Control
We identified the amphibians using the determination key from Frétey (2012), Alan Channing (2001). The geographic coordinates were taken by GPS (Garmin 64s). We had photographed all the amphibian specimens and the capture sites.Method steps
- Amphibians were captured by hand between 6.30 p.m. and 9pm using flashlight light.
