Description

Bioindicators or ecological indicators are taxa or groups of animals or plants that show signs when affected by environmental pressures. This research is from the funding by GBIF (BID-AF2017-0311) and University of Lagos, Nigeria(CRC 2016/21) that involve the Digitization and Mobilization of Odonata of Southern Nigeria and, molecular characterization, DNA barcoding and banking of Odonata of South western Nigeria respectively. So far, over 4000 collections comprising of over 190 species from Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Edo, Akwa Ibom and Ondo States have been digitized. Odonate collections from Lagos State University, Ojo, in Lagos State comprised a total of 599 individuals made up of 35 species, and two families. The families include Libellulidae (76.3%) and Coenagrionidae (23.7%). Three dominant species were Ceriagrion glabrum (18.5%), Pantala flavescens (15.2%) and Acisoma inflatum (2%). Two species with only one individual included Teinobasis alluaudi and Urothemis assignata.
