Description

"Participatory inventory of the Himalayan balsam within the Dyle basin since 2008" is an occurrence-only dataset serving as an assessment of the invasion on the rivers of the Dyle basin by Impatiens glandulifra .

The majority of the data was collected between 2008 and 2010 in a participative way thanks to all the partners of Contrat Rivière Dyle-Gette (CRDG), the coordination of this large-scale inventory being ensured by the Coordination Unit at CRDG. Other data came of course to complete and specify this first inventory according to the multiple activities of the CRDG partnership and following the new detections made during the operations of management of the invasive alien species set up annually on the whole sub-basin since summer 2010.

Purpose

To establish and maintain an assessment of the invasion of Impatiens glandulifera in the rivers and water points of the Dyle watershed.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

The dataset focuses the Himalayan balsam along rivers banks within Dyle basin, since 2008. Most of the data has been collected during the 2008-2010 period, but few records were added later, until March 2022. Most of recording dates has not been saved, and the time extent of the inventories has been used as a default value. Thus, the dataset should be considered with caution.

Sampling

The data are collected thanks to all the partners of the Dyle-Gette River Contract, the coordination of this large scale inventory being ensured by the Coordination Unit of Contrats Rivières.

Method steps

  1. various activities with partners, under coordination by Contrats Rivières.
  2. Gathering of the records within a dedicated GIS layer serving as a state of the art regarding to the Himalayan balsam distribution within the bassin.

Additional info

Dates are uncertain, and provided by default. Caution should be paid on this parameter and the dataset should rather be considered as a 'pre 2023' state of the art.
