Description

Data on the distribution of bees from both published and unpublished sources have been compiled into a national database on Ireland's bees.

Purpose

This database was initially compiled as part of a Trinity College Dublin/Queen's University Belfast HEA funded research project on the conservation of Irish bees (2003-2006; Úna Fitzpatrick & Tomás Murray). It was used for conservation purposes, including the development of a Red List. It is now deposited with the National Biodiversity Data Centre and is managed by Úna Fitzpatrick.

All data has been validated by an expert. The source data field indicates the published or unpublished source from which the data originates.

Method steps

  1. Various: field observations, transect walks, pan trapping, malaise trapping.
