Freshwater fish records via iRecord - additional species
Species records for freshwater fish from datasets made available via iRecord and verified by the Freshwater Fish Recording Scheme. This dataset supplements the main iRecord dataset (dr1851) and includes species in genera Anguilla, Lampetra and Petromyzon (for technical reasons those genera are not included in the main dataset). Records are from datasets stored within the Indicia data warehouse hosted by the Biological Records Centre - these records may originate from direct addition of records to iRecord, or via other datasets that have been added to other Indicia-hosted surveys.
Purpose
Records are collated in order to add to knowledge of this group of species, including distribution, population trends, autecology and phenology. Sharing the data via NBN helps achieve these aims.
Sampling Description
Quality Control
The recording scheme applies checks for outlying records (based on species, location and date). The route by which data arrives for verification in iRecord can vary, and comes from recorders with a wide range of experience, but the same verification process is applied to all data and the scheme believes that the dataset provided to NBN is of high quality.Method steps
- This dataset includes all records of the relevant taxa that have been made available for verification via iRecord. Most of these are ad hoc records from volunteer recorders, but will also include some data from professional surveys and from citizen science projects such as bioblitzes.
