The new mycological collection of Vienna University, Dept. of Botany and Biodiversity Research, WU-MYC, was founded in 1979 by Rolf Singer and Friedrich Ehrendorfer. It contains fungal specimens from all over the world and is curated by members of the Austrian Mycological Society (ÖMG), which is hosted at the department. The ÖMG is dedicated to improving knowledge about and preserving fungi following the principle of participative and community-based research for mapping the Austrian fungi and beyond. New specimens of rarely documented fungi, which are not yet well documented in the collection, are always welcome. The taxonomic groups covered are Ascomycota, Basidiomycota, Oomycota (belonging to the Stramenopiles), Mycetozoa and a few Zygomycota.Taxonomic Coverages
