Description

The dataset includes finds of birds (Aves), mammals (Mammalia), insects (Insecta), amphibians (Amphibia), reptiles (Reptilia) and vascular plants within the Kyiv administrative region of Ukraine.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

The surveys covered: - Forests of the Teteriv River valley on the border of Zhytomyr and Kyiv oblasts (territory of Teterivsky Forestry State Enterprise); - Forest Park Zone of the city of Kyiv (Koncha-Zaspa, Darnytsia Forest Park, forests between Kyiv and Brovary, National nature Park "Holosiivskyi"); - Forests in the valley of the Irpin river near the village of Bobrytsia and adjacent territories (designed National Nature Park "Pryirpinnia - Chernechyj Forest"). This dataset was prepared and published with the help of the Olin gGmbH foundation to preserve data on the biodiversity of Ukraine obtained by the Ukrainian scientists, who were forced to leave their homeland due to the war (Russia's invasion of Ukraine). Olin gGmbH is a funding organization for environmental protection and conservation that supports environmental and sociopolitical organizations.

Sampling

Studies of the species composition and number of birds, mammals, insects, amphibians and reptiles were conducted on routes (from 1000 m to 20 km) and during the investigation of previousely set survey areas (from 10 ares to 5000 ha). In the northern part of the region hiking trails were about 100 km. Observations were also carried out while traveling in the region by motor vehicle (private car or bus).

Quality Control

The author is fully responsible for the quality of data provided within the dataset.

Method steps

  1. Conducting of field expeditions on the routes and survey areas.
  2. Species counts and identifications.
  3. Georeferencing.
