This is a data set from the project Artsprosjekt_59-12_Wood-inhabiting_basidiomycetes within the Norwegian Taxonomy Initiative, funded by the Norwegian Biodiversity Information Center (Artsdatabanken). The data set consists of fruitbody observations of corticioid basidiomycete fungi on spruce (Picea abies) logs. Sixty logs were surveyed for fruitbodies in each of the ten Norwegian study localities. Fruitbody specimens were identified by Viacheslav Spirin, Matti Kulju, Sergio Pérez Gorjón, Sten Svantesson and Jenni Nordén. The identification work was supervised by Karl-Henrik Larsson who also checked all the specimens that represent taxa challenging to identify.Purpose
The main objectives for creating the data set are to increase knowledge on the diversity and distribution of corticioid fungi on spruce in Norway, and to compare fruitbody-based and DNA-based diversity screening methods. We provide comparable baseline biodiversity data for representative spruce-dominated sites across the distribution range of spruce in Norway and Sweden. We increase the knowledge about distribution and population sizes of rare and red-listed corticioid fungi on spruce.
Sampling Description
Study Extent
Fungal fruitbody data collected September-October 2011 in Norway.Sampling
Sixty spruce (Picea abies) logs were thoroughly surveyed for the fruitbodies of corticioid fungi in each of the ten Norwegian study localities. Specimens were taken for later microscopical identification.Quality Control
Karl-Henrik Larsson (University of Oslo) checked all the specimens that represent taxa challenging to identify correctly.Method steps
