Original provider: Marine Turtle Research Group / SEATURTLE.ORG Dataset credits: Data provider Marine Turtle Research Group Originating data center Satellite Tracking and Analysis Tool (STAT) Project partner This project is a collaboration among the Marine Turtle Research Group (Brendan Godley, Annette Broderick, Lucy Hawkes), Michael Coyne (SEATURTLE.ORG)the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (Matthew Godfrey) and the Bald Head Island Conservancy. Project sponsor or sponsor description This project was funded by grants from the Newport Aquarium, Kentucky, and the Natural Environmental Research Council as well as donations from SEATURTLE.ORG. Abstract: This project aims to find out more about the post nesting migratory movements of loggerhead sea turtles from Bald Head Island. Four nesting females were tracked in 2003 and made impressive movements north, using waters as far away as New Jersey. Two of the transmitters are still transmitting. The transmitters provided us with some very useful and interesting novel information about the migratory and foraging behaviour and natural history of the loggerhead sea turtle in North Carolina. This summer's deployments will complement last seasons results and provide us with a wider insight into North Carolina sea turtle biology. Supplemental information: Visit STAT's project page for additional information. This dataset is a summarized representation of the telemetry locations aggregated per species per 1-degree cell.
