Description

Information on plants belonging to the genus Salix L. (Salicaceae) stored in the SVER Herbarium (Museum of Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology Ural Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences) is presented. The samples have been collected over the past 150 years in Europe and mainly the Urals. The data was obtained from the labels of the SVER Herbarium, and information about each occurrence was linked to geographic coordinates with an approximate accuracy of 1 km. For each record there is an attached digital image of a herbarium specimen with label made in high resolution at 600 dpi.

Представлена информация о растениях рода Salix L. (Salicaceae), хранящихся в гербарии SVER (Музей Института экологии растений и животных Уральского отделения Российской Академии наук). Эти образцы были собраны в Европе и, главным образом, на Урале в течение последних 150 лет. Данные были получены из гербарных этикеток, и информация о каждом образце была привязана к географическим координатам с приблизительной точностью 1 км. К каждой записи прилагается цифровое изображение гербарного образца вместе с этикеткой, выполненное с оптическим разрешением в 600 dpi.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

In this dataset we start to publish information about herbarium specimens from genus Salix L. (Salicaceae) kept in the SVER Herbarium. Plant samples were gathered by staff of the Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology of the UB RAS from different regions of Ural in field trip or received during herbarium exchange.

Sampling

Herbarium specimens have been digitized using special scanner, ObjectScan 1600 (Microtek, Taiwan), according to the international standards, at 600 dpi, with a barcode, 24-color scale and spatial scale bar.

Quality Control

All digitized specimens were examined and revised by Salicaceae s. str. (Populus L. and Salix L.) expert Dr. Irina Belyaeva (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, UK).

Method steps

Dried and pressed herbarium specimens were digitized using special scanner, ObjectScan 1600. Images (*.jpg files) are stored in the Digital Herbarium SVER (https://herbarium.ipae.uran.ru)

Herbarium specimens collected mostly from Urals, East Siberia and Kazakhstan, few specimens from Europe and Caucasus.
