Study Extent

The collection groups samples collected from 1844 until 2017.

Sampling

The main methods used to collected were: filtered water samples using plankton net from 20 to 68 um; scrapping of natural substrates (e.g., plants, rocks, etc), and total phytoplankton. The samples are fixed using Transeau or Lugol Solutions. Some samples were also oxidized and permanent slides were produced, using Naphrax® as including medium.

1. The samples are available to consult, and assessment of the data.

Since algae is an artificial group to designate organisms that carried out photosynthesis but does not produce embryo, the FUEL-Algae encompasses representatives of different kingdom, such as Bacteria, Plantae, Chromista, and Protozoa.

The Phycological Collection from Herbarium of Universidade Estadual de Londrina houses samples especially from State of Paraná, Brazil, including type material of species, but also from another countries.
