Description

Ferns from the family Ophioglossaceae kept in two herbarium collections (NS and NSK) placed at the Digital herbarium of the Central Siberian Botanical Garden, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences are represented in this dataset.

The moonwort genus, Botrychium s. s., includes diploid and polyploid taxa that occur primarily in the northern hemisphere. Their evolutionary history, morphologically cryptic taxa and deep divergence of the family in the phylogeny of ferns has long fascinated pteridologists.

Purpose

Our aim is to provide online access to CSBG SB RAS herbarium collections as a worldwide resource for biodiversity study.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

All specimens from Ophioglossaceae family stored in NS and NSK herbarium collections were digitized by staff of Digitization group in Vascular plant systematics laboratory of CSBG SB RAS. Our aim is to provide online access to CSBG SB RAS herbarium collections as a worldwide resource for biodiversity study.

Sampling

Currently digitization of samples is carried out using two ObjectScan 1600 scanners. Each workstation consists of an ObjectScan 1600 scanner, ScanWizard_Botany software (reg. number I41-018966) and MiVapp_Botany archive management system (reg. number I41-018969) software (Microtek, Taiwan).

Quality Control

The samples were scanned according to international standards: with a resolution of 600 dpi, a barcode for each sample, a 24-color scale and a scale ruler. Label metadata information placed into CSBG Digital Herbarium, Excel table and then transferred to *.csv and Darwin Core format.

Method steps

  1. Prof. Grant Jason R. (University of Neuchâtel, Switherland) as an expert of Botrychium s.lat. taxa, checked the determinations of all these herbarium specimens.
