Description

The "Birds of Ukraine" website (https://uabirds.org/) was created in the spring of 2015 on the basis of the 10-year-old www.birds.kz website by Askar Issabekov on the initiative of Andrew Simon. The site was created primarily for local birdwatchers. The site provides an opportunity to upload data in the form of photos or videos indicating the species, date and place of observation. The quality of the photo should be of sufficient quality, so that it was possible to clearly identify the bird to the species based on the materials provided. Also, the site has a functionality for holding the big year contest - counting the number of species recorded by an individual observer during the year. The dataset includes 17,596 records of 376 species of birds discovered on the territory of Ukraine.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

The research was conducted in 2015-2024, including some particular records from earlier years (e.g. 1961), throughout the territory of Ukraine. There are single non-regular observations since 2007. All information is collected by the authors of the report.

Sampling

The data was collected by photographing the birds and uploading the data to www.uabirds.org along with the date, time and coordinates of the observation/photo location.

Quality Control

The authors are responsible for the accuracy of species identification and data provided alongside with the records.

Downloading of the dataset from the site and its organising in a form of Darwin Core guided table.
