Description

There are 1585 records of the Fungi Kingdom present in the Magallanes Region, compiled from published bibliography such as specialized journals and technical or academic publications. They correspond to 171 taxa of macrofungi and 470 of lichens. When specified in the bibliographic reference, the type of substrate (habitat) in which they grow is described. This compilation is part of the efforts to increase the knowledge on cryptogamic diversity of the Cape Horn Biosphere Reserve as proposed by the Cape Horn International Center (CHIC- ANID PIA/BASAL PFB210018). This data set will eventually be supplemented with field records from scientific or community explorations.

Purpose

The purpose of publishing the datasets of bryophyte, lichen and fungi species diversity is to facilitate access to knowledge about biodiversity in the sub-Antarctic Chile and to encourage citizen participation in its generation.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

All records of macrofungi and lichens occurring in the subantarctic region of Magallanes, Chile, are reported.

Sampling

To build up the database, we compiled and systematized the records published in both specialized journals as well as in divulgative publications and technical reports by experienced scientists on regional biodiversity.

Quality Control

The taxonomic nomenclature used has been updated according to MycoBank (available at https://www.mycobank.org/). Geographic coordinates have been systematized from what was reported by the authors of the publications; when they were not available but the locality was mentioned, these have been approximated using Google Earth; in both cases the coordinates have been validated using the GBIF tool.

Method steps

First, an exhaustive review of the literature related to the diversity of macrofungi and lichens in the Aysén region of Chile was carried out using scientific content search engines such as Web of Science® and Google Scholar. The information resulting from this review was systematized in the form of records according to the DarwinCore standard.
