Herbarium of the Institute of the problems of Northern development (TMN)

Description

The first speciments of the Herbarium of the Institute of the Problems of Northern Development (IPDN) were collected in 1992-1993. At present, the herbarium contains about 21 thousand specimens of vascular plants. Most of the samples were collected in Western Siberia (Tyumen Region, Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area - Yugra). Some speciments were collected in other regions - Sverdlovsk region, Komi Republic, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). A small part of the speciments from other collections.

Main collectors: Elza Valeeva, Valerii Glazunov, Svetlana Nikolaenko, Natalia Khozyainova.

Since 2016, the Herbarium has an international acronym TMN.

In the first version we present a dataset of all holdings of spore plants (Pteridophyta) in the Herbarium of the Institute of the Problems of Northern Development, totalling 525 specimens collected during 1964–2021, which are referable to 50 species. All specimens were georeferenced with the utmost precision available.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

The dataset has been prepared in the course of a complete inventory of herbarium collections of vascular plants of the Institute of the problems of Northern development (TMN).

Sampling

The information on the specimen identity and the history of identifications, locality, collection date and collector was captured from herbarium labels and recorded into a spreadsheet of MS Excel. Specimens were georeferenced using Google Maps or Yandex Maps. For some specimens, latitude and longitude are indicated on herbarium labels or in observation records.

Quality Control

The original identification was verified for each specimen. Taxonomy matching was performed using the GBIF Species Matching tool.

Method steps

  1. Entering information into a spreadsheet of MS Excel from mostly handwritten herbarium labels. Specimens georeferening.
