Description

In the early eighties, the province of Noord-Brabant started a breeding birds research project in rural areas. The emphasis is on agricultural areas, since most environmental planning developments occur here. The provincial department wishes (and is duty-bound by the EU) to consider ecological value when making policy decisions. Environmental data is therefore collected systematically. Comprehensive mapping of breeding birds is part of this. The first mapping project ran from 1983 to 1987 (East Brabant) and from 1989 to 1994 (West Brabant). The second mapping project took place from 1995 to 2000 (East Brabant) and 2002 to 2004 (West Brabant). The third mapping project started in 2005 from East Brabant. The aim of comprehensive mapping is to support provincial environmental policy-making by determining the relative avifaunistic quality of agricultural areas based on a wide spectrum of species (as wide as possible). Positive observations without zeros.
