A list of vascular plants of Ulytau State NAtional Natural Park

Flora of Ulytau regions is represented by 556 species of vascular plants from 286 genera and 72 families. The leading families are Asteraceae, Poaceae, Fabaceae, Rosaceae, Brassicaceae, Caryophyllaceae, Scrophulariaceae, Boraginaceae, Lamiaceae, Polygonaceae. These 10 leading families make up 70.79% of the total species of the Ulytau Mountains and 62.42% of the total number of genera. The largest genera are Artemisia (11 species), Astragalus (11 species), Veronica (10 species), Potentilla (9 species), Silene (8 species), Carex (8 species). 20 endemic species are growing in Ulytau Mountains; among them 18 are endemics of Kazakhstan, and 2 are local endemic of Ulytau Mountains. The lists of plants, included in Red Book of Kazakhstan are following: Silene cretacea, Аnabasis turgaica, Valeriana chionophila, Тanacetum ulutavicum, Тulipa patens, Тulipa gesneriana, Tulipa biebersteiniana, Craniospermum echioides, Adonis wolgensis, Pulsatilla flavescens.

Ulytau Mountains located in the territory of Ulytau region, south-western massive of central-kazakhstani upland. In the north, the district borders on the Tobol-Ishim, Kokchetavsky and Irtysh floristic regions, in the east - with the Western small swamp, in the west - with the Turgai floristic region, in the south - with Betpakdala. On the territory of the Ulytau Mountains with adjacent environs, the Ulytau State National Natural Park is located, the area of which is 58,912 hectares, of which 7644 hectares are covered with forests. The western part of the Ulytau Mountains has low-altitude relief types (from 300 to 1135 m high). The district is located in the subzone of light chestnut soils, represented by differences diverse in mechanical composition. The territory is dominated by gravelly and rocky light chestnut soils on alluvial and diluvia - pluvial deposits of various mechanical compositions: sandy and sandy loam on river terraces, light-carbonaceous and heavy-carbonaceous - on accumulative alluvial plains. Saline and carbonate variants of light chestnut soils in complex with salty soils are very widespread.
