NDFF Mice survey with live traps

Dataset homepage

Citation

van Oene M, Oomen D (2018). NDFF Mice survey with live traps. Dutch National Database of Flora and Fauna (NDFF). Metadata dataset https://doi.org/10.15468/z9n6nq accessed via GBIF.org on 2025-05-18.

Description

In this research project, live mouse traps are used to establish the presence or absence of Microtus oeconomus and Neomys fodiens in square kilometre plots that cannot be studied with pellet analysis. The process involves placing live mouse traps (a row of 10x2 traps in each square kilometre plot) within the habitat of the species that is surveyed. A survey of the Microtus oeconomus involves 2 nights of catching (4 checks) and a survey of the Neomys fodiens involves 3 nights of catching (6 checks). All data is reported on a point level with a description of the vegetation and structure. The data is reported on a ‘traps form’ (please refer to pdf file). Research using live mouse traps is only carried out by (or under supervision of) specialists from the Dutch Mammal Society. A good understanding of the species guarantees the validation of the data. In addition, every location (row) where the target species is found is accompanied by a photo of a caught specimen. Dataset available via https://www.ndff.nl/english / serviceteamndff@natuurloket.nl Positive observations without zeros. 27,920 records (March 2018) NDFF protocol 17.001 https://www.ndff.nl/overdendff/validatie/protocollen/17-001-inventarisatie-muizen-met-inloopvallen/
