Description

Data was collected at CSIR-Plant Genetic Resources Research Institute, Ghana from their multi Vegetable database developed in 11th July 2018. The study area is Bunso, North of Accra 120km, in the East Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region of Ghana and very close to the Linda Dor Restaurant on Accra - Kumasi road and also falls within the moist semi-deciduous forest type in Ghana. The area is characterized by high diversity of pioneer tree species and lies within decimal latitude and longitude 6.289405 and 0.467556 respectively.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

The data was taken at Bunso in Ghana with decimal latitude 6.289405 and longitude 0.467556 on December 5 2017 from observation of germplasm on Crop Wild Relatives.

Sampling

The seven Wild Crop Relatives germplasm (Finger millet, rice, cowpea, Corsican stonecrop, solanum anguivi, sorghum, elephant grass) were collected from 9th November 2010 to 5th December 2017. The collections were carried out in nine regions of Ghana namely: Northern, Upper West, Upper East, Eastern, Volta, Central, Brong-Ahafo, Western and Ashanti Regions. One hundred and twenty accessions of the Wild Crop Relatives were collected by CSIR-Plant Genetic Resources Research Institute. Twenty-two columns were used for 120 records. The collection team was put into twenty groups made up of Research scientists, Technical Officers and Drivers. Wild Crop Relative database were created from the CSIR-PGRRI Passport database and sorted from “Poaceae, Leguminosae, Papilionaceae, Glaberrima, Pennisetum” families. Seven Wild Crop Relative were gathered for the database. DecimalLatitude and decimalLongitude were calculated using Google Map: https://maps.google.com/ for the towns coordinates. Coordinate of uncertainty were also calculated using Georeferencing Calculator: http://manisnet.org/gci2.html to find towns coordinates and distance to the place on the Map. Status of sample was from; Abandon farm, farm, fields, grassland, grave pit, river banks, roadside, per-urban, lowland, perennial pool, swamp, pond margin, pool margin, rice field, residential plot. Material types were Fruits, seeds, grass, creeping herb, erect herb, shrub and flowers.

Quality Control

All measuring instruments were correctly calibrated. All recordings were made in uniform units. Only flora species were sampled. The sampling procedures were duly followed.

Method steps

  1. All data were entered in excel worksheet using the Darwin Core standard using the template for occurrence data and cleaned from errors using the open refine. All names were resolved and verified using the Taxonomic Name Resolution Service V.40. Google map and Georeference calculator were used in calculating the coordinate of uncertainty in metres. The Canadensys coordinate conversion was used in changing the geographic coordinates from DDMMSS to decimal coordinates. Dates were parsed using the Canadensys date parsing. InfoXY version 2.0 was used in validation all the geographic data associated with the species.

Taxonomic Coverages

The plants were identified to the species level
  1. Eleusine corocana
common name: Finger millet rank: species

Geographic Coverages
