This dataset was mobilized by the Plant Genetic Resources Research Institute, one of the institutes under the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research. This dataset is the cereal dataset consisting of Zea mays L.,Panicum miliaceum subsp. miliaceum (a.k.a millet), Eleusine coracana (L.) Gaertn. Gaertn. (L.)(a.k.a finger millet), Oryza sativa Hochst. ex Steud (a.k.a rice),Hyparrhenia dichroa (Steud.) Stapf (a.k.a Sorghum/Guinea corn) and Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc. Verdc. (L.) (a.k.a Bambara groundnuts). These collected from field expeditions across the country. The purpose of the expeditions was to collect germplasm that can be propagated for duplicationPurpose
The purpose of this dataset is to make information on cereals available to decision makers. It is envisaged that, the information provided would be used as a basis for enhancing the conservation of cereal plant genetic resources in Ghana.
Sampling Description
Study Extent
The study was conducted across the 10 regions of Ghana. Samples were collected based on the various ecological zones.Sampling
At each collection point samples were collected from various locations notably farms, farmstores, market places and gardens at a distance of 20km apart. The samples are collected either as seeds or cobs.Quality Control
Data was mobilized from the passport database at the CSIR-PGRRI. Scientific names were verified using the Global Name Resolver with the source being the GBIF Backbone Taxonomy. This dataset has currently a potential of 1318 records. These are yet to be cleaned for all errors including possible nomenclature and taxonomic errors as well as georeferencing.Method steps

Additional info
This data was mobilized by CSIR-Plant Genetic Resources Research Institute under the African Biodiversity Challenge (ABC), 2018 coordinated by South Africa National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) with funding support from JRS Biodiversity Foundation. The dataset has a potential of 1318 records of cereals in Ghana. This resource metadata was published by A Rocha Ghana, a member of the Ghana ABC team on behalf of CSIR-Plant Genetic Resource Research InstituteTaxonomic Coverages
The dataset is of the Kingdom Plantae and of the family Poaceae. The dataset was identified to species level.
