The dataset consists of records of nests of birds from Corvidae family that were registered in Kyiv and Poltava cities and their vicinities.Sampling Description
Study Extent
Studies of the number and the spatial distribution of Corvid birds in cities have been conducted since 2021. At present, 16.5 km (1646 ha) of residential, administrative quarters, parks and green areas in Poltava city have been surveyed. The research was conducted from late March to mid-April in 2021 and 2022 by mapping nests.Sampling
To find out the characteristics of the distribution of bird nest sites, the survey area was divided into three categories according to different urban landscapes, types of vegetation, and anthropogenic pressure: (І) The areas with high-rise buildings and commercial buildings - 771 ha (46.84% of the studied territory). These areas have high-rise buildings (2 or more floors) with high traffic intensity, often close to the main streets of the city (with continuous and regulated traffic). (ІІ) Areas of private sector - one- and two-storey buildings - 668 ha (40.56 %). This category of sites includes suburbs, away from main roads with heavy and regulated traffic. (ІІІ) Parks and green spaces - 207 ha (12.6 %). This also included cemeteries and the university botanical garden. In the Kyiv city was inspected and mapping nests in the territory of 3,4 km (337 ha) in 2024. The territory in Kyiv included two categories: (І) The areas with high-rise buildings and commercial buildings – 553 ha (ІІІ) Parks and green spaces – 84 ha. We plan to continue the survey in Kiev in 2024 and 2025. The first result based on mapping nest about the peculiarities nesting in the city Poltava and the interaction between crows and magpies are published in 2024, DOI: 10.1080/11956860.2023.2300758Quality Control
