Soil macrofauna of the middle taiga forests at the Lyalsky test area in the European part of Russia (Komi Republic)

Study Extent

The dataset provides information on the number of individuals of Large soil invertebrates in soil cores collected in spruce, pine and deciduous forests located in the Lyalsky test area.

Sampling

Sampling was carried out at 12 plots. We took 10 samples at each plot.

Quality Control

The data were collected and identified by specialist from the Institute of Biology of Komi Scientific Centre of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Earthworms identified by specialist from the Center for Forest Ecology and Productivity of the Russian Academy of Sciences (CEPF RAS).

Method steps

1. At each plot, 10 samples were taken with a size of 25x25 cm to a depth of 10-30 cm. Individuals were stored in 95% ethanol for subsequent identification with binocular microscope.

To study the fauna of soil invertebrates, 7 areas of spruce forests, 3 areas of pine forests and 2 areas of deciduous forests were investigated.
