The moss species monitoring program uses square kilometre plots to count. Species are noted on a standardised tally form. The abundance of each species is registered, as well as the duration of the visit. In principle, this approach (a stratified random sample of all square kilometre plots within a physio-geographical region) is used to inspect 300 square kilometre plots in the Netherlands, but in practice the method is used for other square kilometre plots too. Special species/observations are monitored by 9 species experts. Collecting and preserving evidence, such as herbarium specimens or photos, is mandatory in some cases. Dataset available via https://www.ndff.nl/english / serviceteamndff@natuurloket.nl Positive observations without zeros. 34,105 records (March 2018) NDFF protocol 2.204 https://www.ndff.nl/overdendff/validatie/protocollen/2-204-meetnet-mossen/Taxonomic Coverages
