Description

Bat diversity of Buton Island in South East Sulawesi, Indoneisa

Sampling Description

Study Extent

This dataset is assembled as an extension of SEBACRU's 2019-2020 BIFA project, which covered primarily SE Asia and nearby Asian countries. This particular data is focused on bats from the Buton Island in SE Sulawesi, Indonesia

Sampling

Bats were recorded using various trapping techniques, passive acoustic monitoring

Quality Control

The dataset was prepared by the first author (MD) with supervision by the 2nd author (CC). It was first assembled in a standard form designed for the Asian Bat Call Database (ABCD).The contributor(s) has been worked on the data preparation with assistance from Dr. Joe Chun-Chia Huang of SEABCRU, who is also the primary investigtor of the BIFA04-24 project. The contents and format have been reviewed by Joe and Dr. Tamas Golfol from ABCD. The taxonomy of the species records has been carefully reviewed by Dr. Golfol which is very experienced of bat taxonomy in Asia.

Method steps

  1. Species data were either extracted from sound files recorded from captured animals or/and capture records in the field note. Capture individuals were identified primarily by morphological features.

Taxonomic Coverages

At least 33 bat (Mammalia: order Chiroptera) species belonged to 22 genera of eight families, of which 30 are identified to species level and 3 are identified to genus level
