Detección de reclutas de la dorada Sparus aurata como medida del nivel de establecimiento en la Bahía de La Paz, BCS

La "dorada", Sparus aurata Linnaeus, 1758 (Perciformes, Sparidae) es una especie con una exitosa historia de domesticación y cultivo, principalmente en el Mar Mediterráneo y sus inmediaciones en el océano Atlántico, que es su área de distribución natural. En Septiembre de 2005, la empresa Biotecnología Marina de México, S.A. de C.V. (BIOTECMAR) introdujo e inició ilegalmente el cultivo de la "dorada", en la Bahía de La Paz, Baja California Sur. A finales de 2007 se documentó la captura de un ejemplar de "dorada" en el interior de la Ensenada de La Paz, a más de 40 km de lo que fue la granja de cultivo de BIOTECMAR. Este evento que se ha seguido repitiendo, hasta cerca de 30 ejemplares recolectados y documentados a la fecha, en diversas localidades de la bahía y ensenada. Con antelación, se habían tenido noticias de la incidencia en las capturas artesanales de la localidad de una especie desconocida, por lo que instancias federales e instituciones académicas de investigación, realizaron a principios de 2008, esfuerzos de prospección con el fin de tener una idea de la magnitud del problema. A la fecha se desconoce el estado o éxito del asentamiento de la especie exótica en el área, por lo que resulta imperiosa la necesidad de estimar el nivel de invasión, así como de su eventual erradicación y extirpación. La magnitud del problema está pendiente de una evaluación objetiva, por lo que en esta propuesta se considera prospectar y evaluar la magnitud de la invasión y el establecimiento de la "dorada" en la Bahía de La Paz, B.C.S., a través de la presencia y abundancia de sus eventuales reclutas, los cuales son más accesibles que los adultos en sus hábitats costeros preferenciales de crianza (manglares).
