Description

The resource is just an addition of the existing fauna inventory of Liwonde National Park.

Purpose

This data is so useful despite that it was not collected using systematic methods. However, it can be used to estimate the trend of decline or increase of specific species in areas of concern. This could be the oldest data records of the park.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

Liwonde National Park is in the Eastern Region Malawi just south of Lake Malawi near the Mozambique border. It lies largely within the Machinga District, but also is in Mangochi District and on the west it borders with Balaka District. The reserve covers 548 square kilometres of woodlands and dry savannah. A 30km section of the Shire River runs through the park including a section of the shore of Lake Malombe, 20 km south of Lake Malawi . A section was added in 1977 on the northern edge of the park which connects it with Mangochi Mountain Forest Reserve

Sampling

Sampling description is not available

Method steps

  1. Data was collected based on sighting of species as the officer was carrying other park duties. This resource was not as a result of a separate effort.
