This dataset is a compilation of field observations of mammals during rapid biological inventories conducted by the Field Museum and in collaboration with indigenous and campesino people, NGOs, museums and universities, and government agencies. Specimens collected on these inventories may be published through separate resources at the Field Museum or other institutions and can be found by searching for the dwc:datasetName. These data serve as a major resource for biodiversity and geographic distribution patterns. The collection of field observations holds unique ecological and conservation significance because biological inventories are conducted in concurrence with social inventories in remote, unknown areas, and the dataset includes observations of numerous rare species. The dataset is focused in the Andes-Amazon region.Sampling Description
