Project sponsor or sponsor description The Project is authorized by the Italian Ministry of Environment.
This project aims to investigate the movement patterns of loggerhead sea turtles frequenting the Gulf of Manfredonia, which was recently recognized as an important neritic foraging ground for this species in the Adriatic Sea. The 5 turtles monitored by this project were incidentally caught by trawlers fishing in the Gulf. In order to minimize the stress induced, the satellite trasmitters were attached as soon as possible after turtle landing, then turtles were immediately released .
