Description

Records for all bird species recorded during the 6 survey years 2007-13.

Purpose

The aim of the survey was to build a complete picture of all the winter birds of the Lothian and Borders recording areas during 2007-13 at tetrad scale. Much of the survey work was carried out at the same time as the BTO national breeding atlas.

Sampling Description

Quality Control

The data are of high quality, having been checked and verified by the Lothian and Borders recorders and the respective Atlas Working Groups.

Method steps

  1. Data were collected during systematic surveys of all the tetrads in the Lothian and Borders recording areas. All records have been validated by the respective Local Bird Recorders and/or the Tetrad Atlas working groups. All records are geo-referenced at the tetrad (2x2 km scale). The ‘count’ field records the maximum count of each species in the tetrad over the entire survey period (both TTVs and Roving Records). Please refer to the publication for full details and an analysis of the data: Murray, R.D., Andrews, I.J. & Holling, M. 2019.
