The data sampling was taken originally from the fishers and not from fish vendors. Fishers were voluntarily provided their fish catches on day basis to the fisheries enumerators. The data contained fish species fished by the local fishers both from the offshore and inshore region within Temotu provincial water and for instance the most dominant fish family are from Lutjanidae and Scombridae. The fish sampling was purposely to provide a baseline information for Temotu Provincial Government on its fisheries on the basis that a private fish company (called Temout Fish Ltd) operates in the province purchasing fish from the local fishermen.Sampling Description
Study Extent
The sampling was conducted at a single location in Lata Township, Nendo Island. The program was done for a year recording fish species and lenghts via the sampling methodology and the fishers comes from Nendo Islands and perhaps some from nearby Islands - Reef Islands and fishing activities happened close to Tinakula fishing grounds.Sampling
The approach used was digital photographic system (DPS), it involved capturing individual fish images through the usage of a camera. The is attach to a designed measuring board with stand frame of about a meter height and ontop of the stand where the camera is facing downward attach with a screw. In the camera, a pre-programmed SD card was inserted for image storages and the designed measuring board has numeric numbers in centimetres from 1 to 150. Primarily the DPS records the fish species caught or landed, the fish species lengths and also the fisher’s name to allow the visual linkage between the particular fish catch and the fisher. However, undertaking sampling requires two enumerators responsible for placing the fish species onto the measuring the board and another one will work on the camera capturing the photographs.Method steps
