Description

El proyecto que ahora se presenta, pretende integrar un catálogo computarizado de los crustáceos que integran la Colección Nacional de Crustáceos (CNCR) depositada en el Instituto de Biología, UNAM. La base de datos que se elaborará como resultado final de este estudio, será estructurada de acuerdo al formato de Biótica (v 3.1) y estará constituida por más de 13,000 registros para cinco clases, siete subclases, 13 órdenes, 112 familias, más de 300 géneros, alrededor de 900 especies y más de 170,000 ejemplares, provenientes de aproximadamente 4,000 localidades de México. El acervo de la CNCR es considerado como el más representativo de la carcinofauna que habita en el territorio nacional (incluyendo islas y los distintos ambientes de su mar patrimonial), su historia se remonta a las colecciones del Museo de Historia Natural de México o Museo del Chopo (1910-1918), en donde se encontraban depositados ejemplares de algunas especies de los crustáceos mexicanos. Actualmente la colección tiene mas de 50 años de trabajo casi ininterrumpido, durante los cuales se ha incrementado él número de registros significativamente; tan solo en los últimos 15 años, la cifra de ejemplares se ha cuadruplicado (42,000 a 160,000). Así mismo el acervo incluye el resguardo de los tipos de 120 especies, ha sido la base de tesis (licenciatura, maestría y doctorado), de artículos científicos, ponencias en congresos, etc.; siendo lo más importante su función como piedra angular en la formación de más de medio centenar de estudiantes en la sistemática y otros campos de investigación sobre los crustáceos de México. Bajo el financiamiento de la CONABIO, entre 1995 y el 2000, se han integrado inventarios y bases de datos, para los Crustáceos Dulceacuícolas del Orden Decápoda (2,147 registros), los Crustáceos del Litoral de Nayarit (1990 registros) y los Crustáceos del Litoral de Quintana Roo (953 registros).
